PRODUCTS I REGRET BUYING # 3 // NARS LUMINOUS WEIGHTLESS FOUNDATION

It's been a long time since I added a new post to my 'Products I regret buying' series. However, there are still plenty of products sitting in my makeup drawer that I resent buying and stare at with bitter disappointment. Today I'm going to focus on one product in particular that wasn't all that I hoped it would be, and that is my NARS ALL DAY LUMINOUS WEIGHTLESS FOUNDATION.

I actually stumbled across this foundation whilst scanning the beauty counters in Selfridges. I was in the middle of colour matching my skin to a shade of the tried and tested NARS Sheer Glow last summer when one of the NARS assistants approached me to tell me about a new foundation the brand had just released. Being a sucker for new releases, I jumped at the chance to be one of the first to try a new NARS foundation and asked the assistant to help me match my shade... rookie error.

Cut a long story short, I now have a bottle of Luminous Weightless Foundation is the Shade Siberia.  As you might be able to tell from the photo below, the shade isn't exactly the best match for my skin tone due to it being very yellow toned whereas my skin is a pinker tone (Mont Blanc would have been a better fit for any of you pink-toned pale girls like me). Now I'm not dissing the foundation purely for a shade mismatch - I mean I should've checked the colouring in natural lighting. Nope, I'm dissing this foundation for the way it sits on my skin. I don't have particularly dry skin, but I find that this foundation really clings patches of my skin, especially between my eyebrows and around my nose area. I also find that it doesn't matter what moisturiser, base or method of application I use, this foundation tends to sort of clump together whilst on my skin creating a cakey appearance when only a small amount of product is used Perhaps this foundation is better suited to those with more on an oily skin type.  This foundation also has a habit of really sinking into my pores making them look bigger than if I was wearing no product at all.

The product is described as having full yet natural looking coverage with up to 16 hours of wear. The foundation itself is runny yet not watery and does feel creamy in consistency. Whilst I'm not a huge fan of the foundation, I will admit that it does last on the skin for a long while - but up to 16 hours without touch ups? I disagree.

Being a student, I don't have £32 to waste, so I'm going to make sure I use this foundation up. However whenever I this foundation, I now often mix  it with a liquid highlighter to add a bit of brightness to my face.

So what have I learnt from this endeavour? Always read reviews on high-end products before you buy them! Oh, and trust in beauty blogger cult favourites. Next time I run out of foundation, Sheer Glow it is!

I hope you've enjoyed this 'Products I Regret Buying' post and not found it to be too negative! I love NARS as a brand, I just don't think they've got it quite right with this one. Do let me know below if you love this foundation, It's always nice to hear a difference in opinion.

Love always,

  1. It's so annoying that the shade didn't match you! It's a good Idea to mix it into another product to get use out of it though <3

  2. Ooh I was tempted to try this next as I love Sheer Glow, but I might steer clear it off now - hate that build-up between the eyebrows! I love posts like this as they're so useful, so thank you :)

    1. If you have oily skin then this may work a little better on you. If you're set on trying it though, I'd ask for a sample at your local NARS counter first! Glad I could be of assistance!

  3. It's so annoying when a shade doesn't match you, I always seem to be having this problem whenever I buy foundations! I was planning on buying this, but I might just try something else instead, as I have some dry patches on my face!

  4. Oh wow that is really yellow toned. Definitely go for Sheer Glow next time, I've been using it everyday for about 6 years now and I still love it :)

  5. This sounds like my worst foundation nightmare! I hate cakey products and things that pool in my pores, so I'll definitely be giving this one a wide berth!
