EMPTIES NO 2 - SKINCARE EDITION

This really has been a week for change. Change and a spot of spring cleaning... can I declare it Spring yet? I'm just so sick of Winter. As from now you'll hear no more talk of Winter on this blog, it's all about focusing on Spring and new beginnings. Whilst having a serious clutter detox this morning I rediscovered a dusty cardboard box filled to the brim with empty products. Knowing there was no way I could possibly throw anything out before posting mini review's on my blog, I thought I better hop to it. When I say I've accumulated a LOT of empties over the past few months... I mean it. There was no possible way I could fit all the empty skincare, haircare and makeup products into one post and keep it vaguely interesting, so I thought I'd divide things up little. So here you have it my empties part 1 - the skincare edition.

Pure Grace Foaming Bath and Shower Cream -  4/5
I've had some of the most relaxing baths imaginable with thanks to Pure Grace. Whilst the shower cream left my skin feeling soft and hydrated the thing that really got me about this product is the smell...Philosophy describe the scent as "the clean smell of soap and water, with the memory of fresh air woven into white cotton sheets". I suppose that's one way of describing the smell but to me the scent represents winter, safety and warmth... I think that is perhaps the worst description of a scent I've ever written but that's the feelings triggered in me by this product. I'm pretty sure Philosophy actually sell the scent to this product so I may have to make a purchase...

The Body Shop Sweet Lemon Body Butter - 2/5
I've heard bloggers absolutely rave about Body Shop Body Butters so I was super excited to try this. In the shop I picked up the cult favourite cocoa butter body butter.. and then put it down again. Be different, I thought. Perhaps I should have listened to the masses and tried the cocoa. Hydration wise the body butter did an alright job and my skin felt soft and supple but I just could not get over the smell. This product has a really distinct smell. In my opinion it sorta smells like a newly plastered room mixed with plastic - not citrusy at all. In the future I'd like to try another Body Shop body butter but I'll definitely be taking a whiff in the shop before I make a purchase.

L'occitane Mousse Nettoyante Lumiere - 3.8/5
A very gentle cleanser is how I would best describe this light and foamy face wash. If you're looking for an immediate effect then this cleanser might not be for you, but if you're on the hunt for a consistently reliable product then look no further. I find that this cleanser keeps breakouts to a minimum and keeps my skin soft however it doesn't grant me a glowing complexion.

REN Mayblossom T-Zone Control Cleansing Gel -  5/5
I have nothing but good things to say about this cleanser! I bought it after having a really rough patch with my skin last year and it sorted my skin out within days. This cleanser has antibacterial qualities to it so if you struggle with acne or with troublesome breakouts I could not recommend this product enough. I didn't repurchase this cleanser because I wanted to shop around and see if I could find a cleanser to top this one... I still haven't and I will be adding this to my shopping basket again very soon. Amen for REN.

Last year I was given a gift set of the Clarins Daily Energiser collection and sadly I didn't get on with it at all. (Nothing has ever broken me out quite as much as that toner!) The Daily Energiser Cream was just about the only product from the range that I could stand. The moisturiser is quite thick in consistency and it smells pleasant enough too. It did a good enough job of keeping my skin hydrated but as this range is aimed at an age group older than myself I found the cream to be a little too rich for my skin. If you're in mid 20's then I would recommend giving this moisturiser or range a go but steer clear if you're any younger.

I've heard other bloggers say wonderful things about Neal's Yard so I'd like to give a few other products a go.. but unfortunately I didn't get on with this moisturiser at all. The cream was very runny - almost watery - in consistency, but was surprisingly hard to work into the skin. After finally working the cream into my face, it was left feeling more greasy and oily than normal. I really wanted this product to work for me but it just didn't. Perhaps for someone with a different skin type this product could work wonders?

Enzymion - 4.5/5
I adore this moisturiser from Lush! It's targeted at people with more of an oily skin type and provides a radiant glow to the skin. For days after I first started using Enzymion people were noticing a healthy glow to my skin that just wasn't there before. In fact I first heard about Enzymion after complimenting a friend of mine on her skin and she recommended the product to me. The only thing I'm not mad on is the smell, but what can you expect from a product that is largely made out of all natural ingredients. I would also say that in my opinion this is more of a day time moisturiser than a cream to put on before bed. I have repurchased this product already and will continue to do so again and again!

Elemis Fresh Skin Softly Softly Daily Moisturiser -  5/5
I must've thrown out my empty Elemis fresh skin cleanser which was a shame because I did want to review the entire range - which by the way was fantastic. The fresh skin range is aimed at teens and early 20's as a sort of introduction to skincare, but it's really good. The cleanser really works well at controlling breakouts and isn't too harsh on young skin. The day time moisturiser kept my oily areas at bay whilst still providing me with a little bit of a glow and the night cream was wonderfully hydrating if not a little too hydrating on occasions. Overall a brilliant range that I would recommend over and over again.

Phew are you still with me? If you've managed to read through all of that then well done! I don't know if I could have. I am curious though, have you tried any of these products before? What did you think? Let me know in the comments below!

with love

  1. Lovely post! I may have to pick up some of that REN Cleansing Gel now so thanks for that haha! How often do you think you go through make up products? I'm considering doing an empties post soon but I'm wondering whether I should wait to have some make up in it!
